What You Should Do When You Get an International Scholarship
First of all, if you just got an international scholarship, big congratulations! If haven’t you might still find this very useful later.
Know that getting an international scholarship does not easily come so you should really be proud of yourself. However, there are some certain things you need to do and know. Winning the scholarship is just the first step you still have a lot ahead of you.
Here’s what you should start doing when you get an International scholarship
1. Accept the Scholarship
Don’t just be happy and keep quiet. You need to accept the scholarship officially.
Reply to the email or message they sent you. This is really important because some scholarship opportunities provide a deadline for reply. If you don’t reply on time, you might lose it.
Your reply doesn’t have to be anything fancy.
Just say something like: “Thank you for this opportunity. I’m glad to accept the scholarship and I’m looking forward to starting my studies.”
Simple and respectful, don’t add any form of religious texts like God bless you. Try to be very courteous and polite while replying.

2. Read the Terms Very Well
Please don’t just assume you know everything.
Take your time and read all the conditions attached to the scholarship.
There are two types of scholarship; fully funded scholarships usually settles all expenses including tuition, flight, accommodation, monthly allowance, visa etc.
Some only pay school fees, and you’ll sort the rest yourself.
Also, some might expect you to come back to your country after studying.
Don’t hear from people.
Read it yourself and be sure of what you signed up for.
3. Start Your Visa Process Immediately
Once you accept the offer, start working on your visa.
Don’t wait till last minute. Visa application takes time, and anything can happen.
You’ll need documents like admission letter, scholarship letter, proof of funds (if needed), and some other things.
If you delay, you might miss your travel date.
So start early and keep asking questions if you’re confused.

Also, start learning about the country weather, food, cost of living, transportation.
You don’t want to land there and be totally confused.
If your school is offering airport pickup for new students, register for it. It will save you stress.
5. Stay in Touch With the School
Don’t keep quiet after accepting the scholarship.
Make sure that you send a mail to the school that offered scholarship to let them know you are coming. Ask them if there’s any other thing you should do before traveling.
Some schools have forms you need to fill before arrival. Some help with accommodation too.
It’s better to stay in touch with them than to guess.

7. Prepare Yourself Mentally
Traveling abroad may sounds sweet, but it’s not all rosy at the beginning.
New country, new weather, new people, new food.
