Federal universities in Nigeria are generally known for their low tuition because the government subsidizes them. But recently, many of these schools have increased their fees especially for professional and special courses like Medicine, Law, Engineering and ICT.
While some federal schools still keep it affordable, others now charge over ₦100,000 per session depending on the course. Let’s take a look at some of the most expensive federal universities in Nigeria right now.
1. University of Lagos (UNILAG)
UNILAG now charges around ₦66,000 to ₦100,000 for regular students. But if you are studying courses with lab or studio work, the fee jumps to over ₦100,000. Medical students pay as high as ₦190,250.
2. University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT)
UNIPORT has also increased its fees. Regular courses cost around ₦92,000, but professional courses like Medicine and Engineering can go up to ₦245,000 per year.
3. University of Benin (UNIBEN)
UNIBEN students pay between ₦160,000 and ₦190,000 depending on the department. It’s one of the highest fee ranges among federal universities today.
4. University of Abuja (UNIABUJA)
School fees at UNIABUJA range from ₦80,000 to ₦250,000 depending on the program. Medical and law students usually pay the most.
5. Federal University Otuoke (FUOTUOKE)
Located in Bayelsa, FUOTUOKE charges between ₦96,000 and ₦106,000, making it one of the more expensive options despite being relatively new.
6. Federal University, Dutse (FUD)
Medical students at FUD pay between ₦155,000 and ₦170,000. Other students pay around ₦114,000 to ₦139,000, especially in science-related courses.

7. Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK)
At UNIZIK, students pay around ₦60,500 to ₦90,500. Those in engineering, science and law-related departments are often at the upper end.

8. Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU)
Fees range from ₦61,000 to ₦125,500 depending on your department. Agric and lab-based courses tend to cost more.
9. Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB)
FUNAAB’s fees range from ₦52,000 to ₦164,000 per session. Science, veterinary medicine, and engineering students usually pay more.
10. Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE)
