Overview of the Chevening Scholarship
The Chevening Scholarship is one of the most competitive scholarship programmes in the UK. It is fully funded and it is geared towards grooming professionals from different fields especially academics by offering them a fully funded opportunity to pursue a one-year master’s degree at any UK university.
Statistics has shown that Chevening Scholarship has helped over fifty-five thousand (55,000) professionals from different parts of the world. A research by the nation, showed that over 1,500 Nigerians have partakes in the Chevening Scholarships since it’s inception in 1983.
Benefits
Unlike most scholarships, the chevening Scholarship is fully funded. It everything down to the flight expenses. Full tuition fees, monthly living allowance and visa expenses are covered through the funding
Eligibility Criteria
You must have an undergraduate degree equivalent to upper second-class honours (2:1) in the UK.
You also need to have at least two years (2,800 hours) of full-time work experience. This can be internships, part-time jobs, or voluntary work.
You also need to apply to three eligible UK master’s programmes, and secure at least one unconditional offer by July 11, 2025.
You also need to be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country and commit to returning home for a minimum of two years after the award ends.

Just like that Paris-Saclay scholarship, if you have previously received funding for scholarship in the UK then you’re not eligible for study this scholarship.

Application Requirements
- Your application form should be submitted through the Chevening official website
- Academic transcripts are required
- Proof of English language proficiency (this is not always the case, it depends on the university)
- Offer letters from up to three UK universities (at least one must be unconditional by July 11, 2025)
- Two letters of recommendation, should also be submitted, that’s if you make it to the shortlisted interview stage
- The interview will take place at the British Embassy or High Commission in your country.
Application Timeline
- Applications open by August and close early November
- Shortlisting for interviews happen around Mid-February to early March
- The interviews are conducted from March to May
- Then the final Results are released by June
- The deadline for University Offer & Documentation is usually a month later.
- Studies begin by September/October 2025

Please note, although this Scholarship programme is very beneficial and unique, it is also highly competitive. Every year at least a hundred thousand applicants from different countries show interest, only 1500 are selected. This scholarship requires intense preparation and personal clarity.
