This scholarship is a graduate assistantship, which means your tuition is fully covered, and you’ll also get a living stipend of up to $26,500 per year.

The Simonis Lab at Auburn University is currently looking for a graduate student (or students) to join their research team. The focus will be on studying seasonal changes in bat diseases and health at different field locations in Alabama including natural sites and highway culverts.

What Will You Be Doing?

As a graduate student in this lab, you’ll be able to develop your own research project within the lab’s broader goals. Some key areas include:

Studying how bat infections and coinfections change throughout the year

Exploring how stress (like infections, pollution, and land use) affects bat immune systems

Conducting general research on bat health and conservation in the southeastern U.S.

Your work will involve a mix of fieldwork, lab work, and data analysis, so it’s a great chance to gain hands-on experience.

Who Should Apply for the Auburn University State Scholarship?

A PhD student is preferred, but highly motivated Master’s (MS) students are also welcome to apply.

Who Can Apply for the Auburn State University Scholarship 2025?

To be considered, you’ll need to meet some basic and preferred qualifications:

Basic Requirements for the Auburn University State Scholarship

A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Wildlife or a similar field is required

You must be able to come up with research ideas/questions

You must meet the admission standards for:

The Auburn University Graduate School

The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment

You need a valid driver’s license or should be able to get one soon

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills and Experience:

If you have any of these, you’ll have a better chance:

A Master’s degree in a related field (for those applying for a PhD)

Experience handling wildlife or bats

Experience with collecting biological samples

Knowledge of bat surveys and bat species identification

Skills in lab work or technical lab tasks

Good with data analysis or numbers

Past experience in fieldwork, research, or technical projects
